Police warns communities around Honiara to remain calm during live exercise as part of the preparation for PG23
The Royal Solomon Islands Police Force (RSIPF) will conduct a live exercise from Henderson International Airport, East of Honiara to Rove police headquarters tomorrow 6 October 2023.
RSIPF Pacific Games Lead Planner (LP) Superintendent (Supt) Fred Suhara says, “The time is just right for the live exercise as this is part of RSIPF preparedness, operational readiness and response to ensure we coordinate a security operation to establish and sustain a safe and secure environment that is conducive to the successful delivery of the Pacific Games.”
Superintendent Suhara said, “The live exercise will commence from 10am and finish at 4pm tomorrow with multiple events from Henderson International Airport to Rove in the West of Honiara.”
LP Suhara said, “Let me kindly appeal to pedestrians, vehicle drivers , business houses and the general public living in and around Honiara not to be alarmed but to keep out from these live exercises and go about your normal businesses as usual.’’
Mr. Suhara said the RSIPF will always respond should we have reasonable cause to believe that there’s obstruction to these live exercises and that we may order public assembly or onlookers to disperse immediately.
“This is part of our normal preparatory task as RSIPF is the lead agency for all security matters with responsibility for planning, coordinating, and executing a security operation for the PG23,” Suhara said.
RSIPF PG Planning have conducted a pre-dekstop exercise on 22 September 2023 to all commanders and this will coincide with tomorrow’s live exercise as we are closer in our preparation towards the upcoming PG23 event.
The office of the Commissioner of Police appeal to all road users to adhere and do not panic during the live exercise.
