Police charge 30-year-old male with alleged murder in Temotu Province
Officers of the Royal Solomon Islands Police Force (RSIPF) at the Lata Police Station in Temotu Province have arrested the suspect in relation to a homicide incident that occurred at Rakisu Village on Tikopia Island on 4 February 2021.
Provincial Police Commander (PPC) Temotu Province Superintendent James Toaki says, “Information received say that the killing of the 50-year-old man by the 30-year-old man was related to an alleged sorcery practice by the deceased. The suspect had allegedly killed the deceased by chopping off the hands and legs of the deceased and then took off.”
The suspect was transported from Tikopia Island on board the RSIPF Patrol Boat Gizo and arrived at Lata yesterday (21 February 2021).
The suspect has been charged with one count of murder contrary to section 200 of the Penal Code. He will be remanded at the Lata Correctional Centre and will appear in the Lata Magistrates’ court at a later date.
“Our sincere condolences to the family and relatives of the deceased following the tragic incident,” says PPC Toaki.
