PM congratulates SINU’s Strategic Plan 2021-2025 launch

PRIME Minister Manasseh Sogavare Minister also congratulated SINU for the official launch of its Strategic Plan 2021-2025 recently.

Prime Minister Sogavare highlighted at the opening of the Faculty of Education and Human Complex at the Solomon Islands National University (SINU), Panatina Campus today.

The Prime Minister said the Strategic Plan presents SINU’s Vision a quality National University, raising standards of education, training and research in the Solomon Islands and the Pacific region.

He said it is also aimed towards achieving better living standards; foster nation-building, creation of an inclusive society and empowerment of people and enhancement of the core universally accepted values of humanity.

Prime Minister Sogavare said the true test of the quality of our University is its ability to learn from the past and move forward in a positive and confident manner.

The Prime Minister said the Strategic Plan 2021-2025 is indeed our road map for the journey that lies ahead of us, as we move SINU towards achieving its goals and objectives and bring an improvement in the social and economic livelihoods of all Solomon Islanders.

“The major challenges facing SINU in implementing the Strategic Plan 2021-2025, however, would be finance and human resources,” he said.

The Prime Minister said in order to implement the SINU Strategic Plan and achieve its objectives; we will need commitment and true strategic partnerships between all stakeholders.

Prime Minister Sogavare reminded everyone at the ceremony that the fundamental objective of SINU is the creation and dissemination of knowledge.

He said the SINU Act requires SINU to meet the human needs of the country; hence, a number of new programmes need to be developed.

“I am, therefore, happy to note that the number of programmes offered by SINU has increased from 58 in 2015 to 100 in 2021,” he said.

The Prime Minister during the occasion also announced that the Government has agreed to restore $100 million in capital funding and to increase the operational grant to $60 million to SINU in the 2022 Budget onwards.
