The Infrastructure Cluster Committee of the Government Services Integration Committee (GSIC) for the 2023 Pacific Games has met yesterday to develop their workplan as part of preparations towards hosting the Games.
The Cluster Committee comprises of Officials from the Ministry of Infrastructure Development (MID), Ministry of Communications and Aviation (MCA), Ministry of Health and Medical Services (MHMS), Ministry of Lands Housing and Survey (MLHS), Honiara City Council (HCC) and the Office of the Prime Minister and Cabinet (OPMC).
These Ministries deal with major projects and developments associated with the Pacific Games 2023.
The Ministry of Infrastructure and Development supervises the major expansion and extension of the Kukum highway road, while the Ministry of Communication and Aviation supervises the upgrade and expansion of the Henderson Airport International Apron and Taxing facilities as well as the new construction of the Henderson International Airport Building Terminal.
Meanwhile, the Ministry of Health and Medical Services are planning on the Renovation work on the current National Referral Hospital, while, the Ministry of Lands Housing and Survey with the assistance of the Honiara City Council, are looking at the options of relocation and securing appropriate sites for additional markets in East, Central and West Honiara.
These major project works, developments, and planned renovation and relocation works are essential as it also help us towards the hosting of the Pacific Games 2023.
Meanwhile, the GSIC Secretariat in the Office of the Prime Minister and Cabinet noted the positive progress of work done to date and encouraged these Ministries and Honiara City Council to continue on their work and commitment in undertaking these major infrastructure development, and planned renovation and relocation work, to ensure the country is ready for the Pacific Games 2023.
It also called on support and understanding from all stakeholders, including Honiara City residents to support the work of these Government Ministries as they embarked on their important tasks.
The Infrastructure Cluster Group Committee are part of the eleven Cluster Groups where Ministries have been assigned to different functions and responsibilities to perform and to support the Games Organizing Committee, the National Hosting Authority, and the Government to successfully deliver the Pacific Games in 2023.
