THE 2023 Pacific Games is a catalyst for other major development projects in Honiara.
Prime Minister Manasseh Sogavare stated in his speech at the ground breaking ceremony of the PG 2023 Stadium Wednesday this week.
The Prime Minister said the Henderson Airport upgrade, Kukum Highway project are some of the major developments that are also in progress.
“Just 3 weeks ago, on 16th April, I witnessed the progress on the extension of our international terminal building at Henderson Airport. This new terminal will receive and farewell more than 5,000 athletes in 2023,” he said.
The Prime Minister said the upgrade of the Kukum Highway from fishing village to the airport is also staring soon with the view to have it completed before the 2023 Pacific Games.
He said the improvement of the road from Honiara City Council to White River is also on the cards to be completed before the 2023 Pacific Games.
“Just last Friday, I officiated at the launching of the new Mamara Housing Scheme. The Tina Hydro project is also picking up speed as a result of the 2023 Pacific Games project,” the Prime Minister said.
Prime Minister Sogavare said improvements to Honiara City’s water supply and sanitation systems are also being driven by the 2023 Pacific Games, as well as the beautification of the capital city.
