President of Our Party Jimson Tanangada in a meeting in Honiara made a personal welcome to the General Secretary of Pangu Party of Papua New Guinea Mr. Morris Tovebae and presented a gift on behalf of Our Party executive, the major coalition party in the Democratic Coalition Government for Advancement, DCGA.
President Jimson also congratulated Pangu Party on its 2022 Election victory and subsequent forming of the government led by Pangu Party leader, Prime Minister of Papua New Guinea, Hon. James Marape MP.
Pangu Party General Secretary Mr. Morris Tovebae said it was a privilege and honor to meet up with the Our Party executive adding, Political Parties are independent democratic institutions and shared the need for further collaboration and shared experiences, ideas and vision to promote democracy.
GS Mr. Tovebae said our political realities are very volatile, therefore Political Parties must be well grounded and managed.
“Without Political Parties there is no government, its paramount that political parties must take the center stage and must be further captured and represented in our common groups like the Melanesian Spearhead Group amidst the growing geopolitics.”
The two leaders acknowledge the historical exchanges between the two governments’ ruling parties as an opportunity to discuss policy issues of common interest for both Papua New Guinea and Solomon Islands.
President Jimson emphasized the importance of examining critical issues, problems, and opportunities that are relevant and common to their respective countries. “I hope that the outcome of this historical meeting will encourage more collaboration between Pangu and OUR Party to address social, economic, and cultural issues that will establish common understanding of the current sub-regional, regional and global challenges and appropriate policy responses”.
Further consultations will take place over the week for both ruling Parties respectively in developing a common vision. ENDS///
