MID Hosts Welcome Ceremony for New Minister Ricky Fuo’o, Vowing to Deliver on Infrastructure Goals
The Ministry of Infrastructure Development (MID) hosted a reception event last week, Friday, 30th May 2025, to warmly welcome the new minister, Hon. Ricky Fuo’o.
The event held at the headquarters’ Tiare leaf hut introduces Hon. Fuo’o to the staff, fostering a spirit of collaboration as they embark under new leadership.
In his brief address, Minister Fuo’o conveyed a straightforward message: “Let us deliver.”
He outlined his key priority areas: enhancing transparency and accountability, strengthening the capacity of local contractors, addressing Honiara’s road and traffic challenges, and demonstrating a steadfast commitment to advancing the ministry’s work programs.
His goal is to achieve tangible progress in the nation’s infrastructure landscape during his tenure.
A dynamic and energetic leader from Central Kwara’ae, Hon. Fuo’o is no stranger to the construction industry and the private sector. He brings valuable experience as a construction manager and has served as the former chairman of the Solomon Islands Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SICCI).
His extensive network and proven leadership are expected to bolster government efforts in fostering economic growth, enhancing infrastructure and transport services, and ensuring resilience, safety, and connectivity.
Furthermore, Minister Fuo’o advocates for the integration of gender equality, climate change adaptation, and social inclusion into the ministry’s policies and programs, reflecting the Government for National Unity and Transformation (GNUT)’s commitment to sustainable and inclusive development.
Permanent Secretary Allan Lilia, in his remarks, reassured the minister of the ministry’s unwavering support and commitment to working closely together to achieve shared goals. He also urged staff to uphold the Government General Orders and maintain a positive, professional work attitude.
Representatives from each division—Transport Infrastructure Management, Land Transport Management, Architecture and Building Management, and Corporate Support Services—shared their key priorities and expressed their renewed effort and readiness to collaborate with the minister in delivering effective infrastructure solutions crucial to the country’s economic prosperity.
Currently, MID employs nearly 140 dedicated staff members, with officers stationed across provincial centers in Auki, Gizo, Lata, and Kirakira.
MID Minister is also the “Minister Responsible” for two statutory bodies- Solomon Islands Ports Authority (SIPA) and Solomon Islands Maritime Authority (SIMA).
