Hiele urged the Agriculture Young Professionals to be good ambassadors in the agriculture communities.
SIART/MAL (Honiara)- Gabriel Hiele, Solomon Islands Agriculture and Rural Transformation (SIART) Project Manager asked the seven Young Professionals to be good SIART Project agents during a closing of a four days training at Ginger Beach Retreat.
Hiele said the Young Professionals should work with Provincial MAL officers to support the Agribusiness Producers Organizations (ABPOs) in Malaita, Guadalcanal, and Makira Ulawa Province.
He said the SIART Project and the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock (MAL) expected the seven Young Professionals to be good ambassadors represented them with the ABPOs they would serve.
“It’s important to always think about the image you will display with the ABPOs you will support,” added Hiele.
“But it depends on how you conduct yourself, your attitude, and how you behave professionally and personally.”
He called on the Young Professionals to observe and respect the local community settings in terms of protocols, customs, and organizations.
He told them to create collaborations with the ABPO members and the MAL Extension officers in their respective regions.
According to William Okekini, SIART Agribusiness officer, the Young Professionals training covered the technical skills in project EOI and project proposal writing which includes project financial analysis aspects, workplans, project costing, procurement plans, and many other project aspects. He also stated that the training also covered project communication, environmental and social safeguards, supporting the agribusiness producers’ organizations grant proposal formulation and implementation, and the monitoring and evaluation of the ABPO beneficiaries’ indicators.
“The intensive training for the Young Professionals has given them the confidence to support the ABPOs which they will be deployed to work with,” he said.
Those Young Professionals were the first lot of the Young Professionals which the SIART Project would engage them to assist the ABPO beneficiaries under the SIART Project implementation.
