Biosecurity Solomon Islands officers and one extension officer from Lata received a biosecurity training on Biosecurity legislation. The training was provided under Solomon Islands Biosecurity Development Program.
The purpose of the training is to;
Similar Training had been delivered to Biosecurity officers by the SIBDP project in 2015, however the training only covers few key areas such as Border control, Import, Export procedures and surveillance
The training covers the 13 parts of the Biosecurity Act 2013 and Regulation 2015.
National Facilitator Mr. Max Kolubalona who delivered the training said the real name of this training is called Jurisprudences training but the term jurisprudences may sound unfamiliar to everyone, and so the word legislation is used which is common or familiar and understood by everyone.
All Biosecurity officers were divided into two groups. The first group received the training on the 8th – 9th June and the second group received their training on the 12th and 13th of June 2023
Chief Biosecurity Market Access, Luke Kiriau in his remarks said, he was very happy of such training and this type of training should be revisited from time to time. This to reminds the officers of what their duty and responsibilities. Also, the training will ensure BSI officers to understand Biosecurity standards and regulations and fully abide with the BSI legislations.
Luke expresses his gratitude to Max Kolubalona, the national facilitator, and SIBDP, the training’s facilitator, for providing this training. It is a way forward for Biosecurity Solomon Islands.
