RSIPF investigates viral video of alleged gang assault
The Royal Solomon Islands Police Force (RSIPF) is investigating a video circulating on social media showing a group of boys who identify themselves as the “Nine Six Gang” allegedly assaulting a student at Tuvaruhu following his graduation.
The group is allegedly moving around in numbers, verbally insulting individuals and, when those individuals respond, joining together to physically assault them.
Police have identified the locations associated with the group, and community members from the areas where the boys reside are working closely with police to assist with the investigation.
Police will take appropriate action against those involved in accordance with the law. The RSIPF is also reminding parents and guardians of their responsibility to teach their children respect, discipline and appropriate behaviour from an early age.
Parents and guardians must ensure that children learn to respect others, both at home and in the community. Good behaviour begins at home, and parents play a vital role in guiding their children to become responsible members of society.
Failure to provide proper guidance and supervision can contribute to unacceptable behaviour among young people.
Parents and guardians are therefore encouraged to take an active role in their children’s upbringing and work together with police and the wider community to promote peace, safety and respect.
The RSIPF also warns any group of boys considering forming or initiating such a gang to think carefully about the consequences of their actions.
Police will not tolerate this type of behaviour, and those involved will face strict legal action.
