MECDM Strengthens National Climate Reporting through iMRV Adaptation Training
Honiara, Solomon Islands | 14 October 2026
The Ministry of Environment, Climate Change, Disaster Management and Meteorology (MECDM), through its Climate Change Division (CCD), has commenced a three-day training on the Solomon Islands Integrated Monitoring, Reporting and Verification (iMRV) Adaptation Module. Held from 14–16 October 2026 at the ICT Conference Room on Lengakiki Road, Honiara, the training brings together officers from different ministries to strengthen their understanding of climate change reporting and the management of adaptation information.
The training supports national efforts to improve the monitoring and reporting of climate change activities, in line with Solomon Islands’ priorities and international commitments under the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) and the Paris Agreement.
Building knowledge and practical skills
The sessions introduce participants to climate adaptation in Solomon Islands, the Adaptation Information Management System (AIMS), and national climate reporting requirements. Participants also learn about the Paris Agreement’s Enhanced Transparency Framework (ETF), including Biennial Transparency Reports (BTRs) and reporting on greenhouse gas emissions, mitigation, adaptation and climate support.
Participants are also learning how the iMRV system is structured and connected with AIMS. The climate hierarchy organises information into four levels: Activities, Projects, Programmes and Actions. The training covers system navigation, record creation, user accounts, roles and permissions, helping officers understand how to enter and manage adaptation information in a consistent way.
The final day focuses on hands-on exercises. Participants will practise accessing the iMRV portal and creating sample records for adaptation Actions, Programmes and Projects. This includes entering details such as climate hazards, sectors, responsible ministries, geographical coverage, implementation periods and project descriptions, while checking records for completeness and quality.
Supporting adaptation planning and reporting
By strengthening officers’ ability to use the iMRV Adaptation Module, MECDM aims to improve the quality, consistency and accessibility of climate adaptation information across government. Better information management can help ministries track adaptation progress, support evidence-based decision-making, and contribute to national and international climate reporting.
The training is an important step in strengthening coordination and transparency as Solomon Islands continues to advance its climate change commitments and plan for climate-resilient development.
