NTTT&C Brings Essential Chainsaw Servicing and Maintenance Training to Mwadjoa Village
Mwadjoa Village, Makira-Ulawa Province, 24 September 2026: The National Trade Training, Testing and Certification Unit of the Labour Division-MCILI has successfully conducted a five-day chainsaw servicing and maintenance training program at Mwadjoa Village in Ward 3, Makira-Ulawa Province, from 2 to 6 September 2026.
A total of 47 participants consisted of chainsaw owners and operators participated in the training, which combined classroom theory with practical sessions. Despite challenging weather conditions, the training was successfully completed and provided participants with hands-on knowledge of chainsaw maintenance, servicing, and engine overhauling.
Participants described the training as highly informative and transformative particularly because it was delivered much needed knowledge directly at the village level. The training is believed to be the first of its kind in the area since community chainsaw owners received their equipment through the Member of Parliament for the Ulawa and Ugi Constituency. Recipients of government funded chainsaws appreciate the training saying it will help them in maintaining their machines.
As part of the program, NTTT&C provided spare much needed parts to chainsaw owners and operators. The support enabled participants to repair equipment that had remained unused for extended periods. Some community chainsaws had reportedly been idle for up to four years because of a lack of spare parts and technical support. In total, 14 chainsaws from Mwadjoa Village were fully overhauled and repaired.
Speaking during the closing ceremony, the Chairman of the Mwadjoa Village Committee Mr. James Talo expressed his appreciation to NTTT&C for bringing the training and technical support directly to the community.
“This training has provided an important opportunity for our chainsaw owners and operators. We are grateful that the program was brought directly to our village,” the Chairman said.
Participants received certificates of attendance at the conclusion of the training. Several participants also expressed confidence in servicing and maintenance of their own chainsaws after the training.
The training has strengthened the technical skills of local chainsaw operators and demonstrated the national governments ongoing technical support to our communities.
