NAHA BIRTHING & URBAN HEALTH CENTRE TRANSITIONS TO 24/7 OPERATIONS FROM 6 OCTOBER
The Ministry of Health and Medical Services is pleased to announce that the Naha Birthing and Urban Health Centre (BUHC) will officially expand to full 24/7 operations beginning 6 October. This initiative marks a significant milestone in improving healthcare access for local communities across Honiara.
Naha BUHC serves as a modern, comprehensive facility offering integrated medical services ranging from routine outpatient consultations to essential maternal and newborn care.
Service Delivery & Operating Schedule
- 24/7 General Outpatient Department: Continuous, round-the-clock primary medical care available seven days a week, effective 6 October.
- 24/7 Low-Risk Delivery Services: Safe birthing services operating continuously for low-risk expectant mothers from 6 October. Midwives and nursing staff will assess and guide expectant mothers during routine antenatal care regarding their appropriate delivery plan. High-risk maternal cases will continue to be managed through referral to the National Referral Hospital (NRH).
- Specialised Outpatient Clinics (Monday – Friday, 8:00 AM – 4:00 PM):
- Monday & Wednesday: Antenatal Care
- Tuesday: Postnatal Care & Family Planning
- Thursday & Friday: Child Welfare Services
- Clinical Support Services (8:00 AM – 4:30 PM): Dental, laboratory, diagnostic imaging (X-ray and ultrasound), and pharmaceutical services will operate during standard business hours, supported by on-call technical staff for after-hours emergencies.
Strengthening Urban Health Care Services
The expansion of 24/7 services at Naha BUHC provides an essential, high-quality basic health care alternative for Honiara residents. By managing non-emergency health conditions at the community level, the facility ensures faster care for patients while enabling specialist medical teams at the National Referral Hospital (NRH) to focus on critical care and emergency cases.
