The Solomon Islands Customs and Excise Division (SICED) took its public education and awareness activities directly to the community through its participation in the Annual National Trade Fair 2026, held from 9–16 September 2026 at FOPA Village, Panatina SINU Campus, East Honiara.
Held under the theme “Innovating Today for a Sustainable Greater Solomon Islands Tomorrow,” the National Trade Fair provided an important platform for Customs officers to engage directly with members of the public, businesses, traders, students and other stakeholders.
The SICED Communications and Outreach Team used the event to provide practical information and answer questions about the role and responsibilities of Customs, import and export requirements, Customs procedures, compliance obligations and border protection.
The outreach programme focused on increasing public understanding of Customs responsibilities and promoting voluntary compliance and lawful international trade. Key areas covered included:
• Import and Export Procedures and documentations;
• Customs clearance requirements;
• ASYCUDAWorld and Customs Processes;
• Duties and Taxes;
• Prohibited and Restricted goods;
• Compliance requirements for Importers and Exporters;
• Customs revenue collection and border protection;
• Customs integrity, professionalism and ethical conduct; and
• Trade facilitation and the importance of cooperation between Customs and the trading community.
“The engagement provides an opportunity for members of the public and businesses to ask questions and seek clarification directly from Customs officers.
“This will enable the Division to better understand common Customs-related concerns and receive feedback from the general public, clients, stakeholders, and the trading community,” Team Leader for Communications and Outreach Raymond Hulanga stressed.
“For Customs, the event provided an important opportunity to strengthen communication and cooperation between Customs, the private sector and the wider community,” Hulanga added.
The Division also used the Trade Fair to raise awareness of the Customs Integrity Office, encouraging members of the public and stakeholders to raise concerns through the appropriate channels.
SICED will continue to strengthen its public outreach and education programmes through engagement with businesses, importers, exporters, schools, universities and communities, including through future public events and stakeholder engagement activities.
The Solomon Islands Customs and Excise Division remains committed to improving public understanding of Customs requirements, supporting compliance, protecting Solomon Islands’ borders and facilitating legitimate international trade.
The National Trade Fair brought together Government representatives, business executives, development partners, exhibitors and other stakeholders to promote innovation, enterprise and economic opportunities.
The National Trade Fair is a major national economic and business event that brings together local businesses, entrepreneurs, producers, government agencies, investors, development partners and the general public.
