New Ministers back GREAT vision to deliver change for Solomon Islands
Honiara, 3 September 2026 – Three new Ministers appointed by Prime Minister Hon. Mathew Wale today pledged their full support to the GREAT Coalition, saying they are ready to deliver stability, reform and progress for the people of Solomon Islands.
In a swearing-in ceremony at Government House this morning, Acting Governor-General Hon. Patterson Oti administered the oaths of office and allegiance for Hon. Rexon Ramofafia, as Minister of Finance and Treasury, replacing Hon. Gordon Darcy Lilo; Hon. Alfred Tuasulia, as the Minister of Justice and Legal Affairs, replacing Hon. Clezy Rore and Hon. Nestor Ghiro, as the Minister of Home Affairs, replacing Hon. Reverend Manasseh Maelanga.
Speaking after the ceremony, the three Ministers said they accepted the challenge to serve during a critical time for the nation.
“I am ready to take on the Finance portfolio — one of the most important ministries in driving the GREAT Coalition’s economic vision for our country,” said Hon. Ramofafia.
“Justice and Legal Affairs is central to good governance and the rule of law. I am honoured to serve in this Ministry under the GREAT Coalition to serve our people,” said Hon. Tuasulia.
“The Ministry of Home Affairs is leading key reforms for our communities. I am committed to ensuring these reforms are delivered during my term,” said Hon. Ghiro.
Prime Minister Wale congratulated the new Ministers and thanked them for stepping up.
“Your choice to serve the people of our beloved Solomon Islands at this time is a choice for stability, reform and a better future. The GREAT Coalition remains focused on delivering real change for every Solomon Islander,” PM Wale said.
Another Minister is expected to be sworn in later this evening, further strengthening the numerical support for the GREAT Coalition amid the current political climate.
