STRENGTH OF THE HEALTH SYSTEM RESTS ON THE PEOPLE WHO SERVE IN IT

Health Minister Honourable Morris Toiraena says the strength of the health system rests on the people who serve in it.

The Minister Hon. Toiraena stated this during his speech to the Throne of the Parliament last week.

“Our doctors, nurses, midwives, dentists, pharmacists, laboratory technicians, community health workers, environmental health officers, administrators, cleaners, ambulance staff and many others carry a heavy responsibility. They serve long hours, often in difficult conditions and sometimes far from their families. They deserve our respect, fair treatment, proper training and the equipment needed to serve their communities well”, said Minister Toiraena.

To address this, he stated, the government will strengthen the health work force through improved planning, education, professional development and incentives for rural services.

He further stated that it is essential to retain skilled health professionals, inspire talented young Solomon Islanders to pursue careers in healthcare, and ensure that those serving in rural communities have decent and dignified living and working conditions.
