RSIPF officers equipped with specialized anti-narcotics and CSI skills

Officers of the Royal Solomon Islands Police Force (RSIPF) from the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) and frontline units at Central, Naha, and White River Police Stations have successfully completed a comprehensive anti-narcotics and Crime Scene Investigation (CSI) training package.

The specialized capacity-building training, which followed a similar program recently conducted at the White River Police Station, was delivered by instructors from the China Police Liaison Team (CPLT).

More than 15 CID detectives and frontline tactical officers participated in and successfully completed the intensive training course. The training adopted a dual-module structure tailored specifically to frontline law enforcement and operational requirements.

It provided detailed insights into the investigation theories of organized drug-related crimes and the fundamental principles of on-site crime scene investigation.

During the course, officers were briefed on global drug crime trends, identification of common illicit substances, drug intelligence collection, and evidence consolidation methods.

The training also covered critical points for recording statements in drug trafficking cases and operational command planning for law enforcement operations in complex environments. On the CSI front, the training focused on standard operating procedures for drug crime scene management.

Combining theory with practical field exercises, CPLT instructors demonstrated the collection and preservation of vital physical evidence—including fingerprints, footprints, and DNA—while emphasizing the legal significance of maintaining a strict chain of custody and comprehensive case records.

To ensure the skills could be immediately applied in the field, the CPLT utilized an interactive teaching model. Participating officers engaged in real-world case studies, formulated tactical plans, and executed live-scenario drills, followed by immediate debriefs to address operational gaps.

Speaking at the conclusion of the training, Police Constable (PC) Chris Tafoa from the Naha Police Station expressed his gratitude to the instructors.

Thank you, CPLT, for organizing this well-designed training. This is my first formal training on combating drug crimes, and it could not have come at a better time as we face a rise in drug-related challenges.

I believe the knowledge acquired today will be effectively applied to our daily duties. We look forward to more practical training sessions of this nature,” said PC Tafoa.
