PS Sivoro calls for stronger collaboration to drive tourism
During the Tok Stori session held at Amazing Grace Boutique Cocoa Farm and Garden Tours, this Wednesday.
The Ministry of Culture and Tourism acknowledges the support of DFAT Australia, through the Strongim Bisnis program, for hosting the inaugural Tok Stori on Tourism, which aimed to explore collaborative approaches to support the growth of tourism industry in Solomon Islands.
The Tok Stori (dialogue) was held at the Amazing Grace Boutique Cocoa Farm and Garden Tours, located at Tenaru Beach in Central Guadalcanal, on Wednesday 17 June 2026, bringing together representatives from key tourism stakeholders and partners from Honiara and the provinces.
Speaking at the event, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, Mr. Bunyan Sivoro, called for stronger collaboration to drive the tourism sector forward.
“Solomon Islands is blessed with extraordinary tourism assets, and to unlock these potentials, we must work together. We must continue to strengthen and diversify the experiences we offer our visitors, as our strength lies in our uniqueness.
“We must build on what makes Solomon Islands special, while making it easier for visitors to discover and enjoy our tourism experiences,” he said.
Mr. Sivoro also emphasized the importance of sustainable and resilient tourism, as climate change continues to place increasing pressure on the country’s natural environment and cultural heritage – the very foundation of our tourism industry.
He stressed that protecting these valuable assets must remain at the centre of tourism development efforts.
The Permanent Secretary said that while the government provides policy leadership, improves coordination, facilitates investment, and develops infrastructure, it cannot develop the tourism sector, alone.
“It requires all of us to continue working together as team Solomon Islands to build a tourism sector that creates jobs, supports communities, strengthens provincial economies, and proudly showcases who we are as a nation,” Mr Sivoro said.
He added that the government is listening to the challenges faced by tourism businesses and operators on the ground and remains committed to working together, going forward.
Mr. Sivoro further called for ongoing dialogue and collaboration to identify practical solutions that will support the continued growth and development of tourism in Solomon Islands.
