RSIPF assists Panatina Valley Community to strengthen Community By-Laws and Policing
The Royal Solomon Islands Police Force (RSIPF) National Crime Prevention Department (NCPD) responded to a request from the Panatina Valley Community for assistance in establishing community by-laws and strengthening community policing within their area.
The Director of NCPD, Superintendent Steve Sunaone, acknowledged the Panatina community for recognizing the importance of strong community by-laws and active community policing structures in fostering safer and more resilient communities throughout Honiara.
Strengthening collaboration between communities and the RSIPF remains a key priority in addressing crime and promoting peace and stability.
As part of its ongoing engagement with the community, the NCPD team conducted a crime prevention awareness program in Panatina Valley. The awareness session focused on the causes of crime, common offences, and the consequences associated with criminal activities.
Topics discussed included issues commonly affecting communities, such as marijuana use, copen, the brewing and consumption of homebrew (kwaso), common nuisance offences, late-night disturbances, and domestic violence.
Director Sunaone said, “Informative pamphlets were distributed and explained to community members, including women, men, and children, emphasizing personal safety and the appropriate avenues for seeking assistance when faced with issues at home or within their community.”
The community also appealed to the RSIPF for increased police patrols during weekends. Community leaders reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening their partnership with the RSIPF to promote safety, peace, and stability throughout the community.
Community leaders commended the NCPD team for their prompt response to the community’s request and for conducting the crime prevention awareness program. They described the awareness session as both useful and important in addressing community issues and strengthening public understanding of crime prevention.
