Minister Tuhaika Visits Rove Central and Tetere Correctional Centres
The Minister for Police, National Security and Correctional Services (MPNS&CS), Hon. John Tuhaika Junior, recently visited Rove Central Correctional Centre (RCCC) and Tetere Correctional Centre (TCC) following his appointment as the new Minister responsible for the sector.
Commissioner of the Correctional Service Solomon Islands (CSSI), Mactus Forau, welcomed the Minister and acknowledged that the visit marked his first official engagement with the Correctional Service since assuming office. The Commissioner thanked the Minister for demonstrating the Government’s commitment to supporting Correctional Services in Solomon Islands.
“On behalf of the entire CSSI family, I sincerely welcome you to the Correctional Service Solomon Islands, and look forward to working closely with you under your leadership and guidance as we continue to strengthen the Service in Solomon Islands,” says Commissioner Forau.
During the visit, Hon. Tuhaika commended CSSI officers for their dedication and professionalism in maintaining safe, secure, and rehabilitative correctional environments. He acknowledged the important role correctional officers play in supporting the rehabilitation and reintegration of offenders, contributing to safer communities and national development.
The Minister encouraged officers to continue building on the good work they are doing as sworn officers, reminding them of their oath and responsibility to serve the people and the nation of Solomon Islands with integrity, commitment, and professionalism.
Hon. Tuhaika also conducted site inspections of the cell blocks and other key facilities at both Rove Central Correctional Centre and Tetere Correctional Centre.
The visits provided him with the opportunity to meet officers, observe operations firsthand, and gain a better understanding of the challenges, infrastructure needs, and day-to-day activities within the two Correctional Centres.
The visit reaffirmed the Government’s commitment to supporting the Correctional Service Solomon Islands in its efforts to maintain security, promote rehabilitation, and enhance Correctional Services throughout the country.
