PM Wale Concludes Australia Visit on High Note, Deepens Partnership in Canberra Talks
CANBERRA, Australia, 3 June 2026 – Prime Minister Hon. Matthew Wale has concluded his official visit to Australia on a high note, reaffirming the strong and enduring partnership with Australia following high-level bilateral talks with Prime Minister Anthony Albanese.
Prime Minister Wale expressed appreciation for the warm welcome extended to his delegation, calling it a reflection of the close and historic ties between the two nations.
Prime Minister Albanese emphasised the depth of the relationship, stating Solomon Islands and Australia are “not only neighbours, but family,” and reaffirmed Australia’s commitment to building the partnership.
“Our partnership is grounded in history, mutual respect and strong people-to-people connections that continue to bind our nations together,” Prime Minister Wale said.
The leaders discussed shared priorities, including climate change, regional security, and economic cooperation.
Prime Minister Wale highlighted climate change as a key concern for Solomon Islands and the Pacific, and acknowledged the contribution of Solomon Islanders under the Pacific Australia Labour Mobility scheme to Australian industries and livelihoods at home.
On security, Prime Minister Wale reaffirmed Solomon Islands’ role as a responsible partner and welcomed discussion on Australia’s Pacific Policing Initiative.
Prime Minister Albanese also recognised Solomon Islands’ leadership as Chair of the Pacific Islands Forum and expressed intent to visit Honiara in the near future — a move welcomed by Prime Minister Wale as a step toward further strengthening bilateral ties.
