China Medical Team Launches Free Clinic to Western Province, Delivering Warm Medical Care to Local People
From May 12 to 19, the 5th China Medical Team in Solomon Islands carried out a medical outreach across Gizo and remote communities of Western Province, serving nearly 600 people.
To Respond to the growing healthcare needs caused by the recent Cyclone in Western Province,the 5th China Medical Team launched free clinic to provide consultations, health screenings, medicine donations and health education, bringing care to local people.
The team delivered medical services at Gizo Hospital, Rarumana Community and Gizo High School. Warmly welcomed by provincial officials, health authorities and local residents with traditional garlands, the team’s medical service was recognized as crucial and of great significance.
At Gizo Hospital, the team donated 7 boxes of medicines and three oxygen concentrators. Chinese and local medical professionals worked closely together, sharing expertise in multiple specialties, exchanging clinical experience and jointly improving local medical service capacity. Professional diagnosis and treatment and Traditional Chinese acupuncture helped many residents recover from illnesses and relieve chronic ailments, earning wide recognition and trust.
In remote Rarumana Community, doctors conducted detailed check-ups for residents with chronic conditions such as hypertension, gave targeted health guidance, and provided free medicines to those in need. They patiently explained standard medication methods and daily health management tips, enhancing villagers health awareness. Working under hot weather, all medical staff remained devoted and attentive to every patient with professionalism and kindness.
At Gizo High School, the medical team delivered comprehensive health examinations for faculty members and students. The team also donated a batch of school supplies to the school, bringing practical care to teachers and students. Many teaching staff experienced traditional Chinese acupuncture therapy to relieve neck and shoulder discomfort, while students showed strong curiosity and admiration, creating a warm atmosphere of cultural exchange and friendship.
Health Director in Western Province spoke highly of the dedication and professionalism of the 5th CMT. He noted that the specialties provided this time including Neurosurgeon, breast surgeon, Urology and Acupuncture are in urgent need. The 5th CMT has delivered medical services that fill local healthcare gaps, making the initiative truly significant and far-reaching. At the end of the mission, local residents and medical staff held a traditional farewell with songs and dances, to express sincere gratitude and a sense of attachment.
The outreach served people from remote communities, with medicines donated to local medical facilities for continued community health support. The event not only met local people’s daily health needs, but also further strengthened people-to-people bonds. The friendship between China and the Solomon Islands becomes more solid through sincere humanitarian cooperation and mutual assistance.
