The Hon.  George Temahua is welcomed at the Ministry of Traditional Governance, Peace & Ecclesiastical Affairs.

The new Minister for the Ministry of Traditional Governance, Peace and Ecclesiastical Affairs (MTGPEA) and MP for West New Georgia and Vonavona Constituency-Hon. George Temahua was officially welcomed to his Ministry yesterday.

In his remarks, he said, “As the Minister for the new government, it is a new mandate and thrust forward. That is the trust of the parliament and people of Solomon Islands upon Prime Minister Matthew Wale and his Cabinet. Much is expected and we have to bend our shoulders to the load.”

Minister Temahua reaffirmed the “change is coming,’’ quote by Prime Minister Wale, “As you welcome me now, this change is already on the way. I request every staff to boldly step into the tracks of the ministerial mandate change.”

He reaffirmed the importance of implementing the Free, Prior and Informed Consent (FPIC) mandate of the ministry as ‘the statutory consent for all customary land in Solomon Islands.’

FPIC will allow SI to have an increased balanced socio-economic development for a healthy future, as equitable access to tribal land and natural resources is empowered.

The outgoing Minister, Hon. Mary Garu acknowledged the ministry staff for their support during her short leadership stint. She urged the same level of support for the new Minister in his new responsibility.

The Permanent Secretary-Lottie Vaisekavea warmly welcomed Hon. George Temahua as the new Minister for the Ministry of Traditional Governance, Peace and Ecclesiastical Affairs (MTGPPEA) and pledged full support for his new leadership.

He also acknowledged and thanked the former Minister for her leadership during her short time with the ministry.

The Ministry looks forward to implement the policies of the Coalition government.
