CPLT supported Burns Creek community with a Sewing Workshop
The local women’s representative at Burns Creek community and the China Police Liaison Team (CPLT) officially unveiled the Burns Creek Sista Sewing Workshop on 13 May 2026.
The establishment of the Sewing Workshop was supported by the CPLT, including six sewing machines and a quantity of clothing materials, aiming to engage the women’s group at the Burns Creek community in economic empowerment.
The CPLT also engaged a Chinese woman who had lived in the Solomon Islands (SI) for quite a long time to train these women on art, skills, and the technique of sewing.
The National Crime Prevention Department (NCPD) of the RSIPF, along with the CPLT, had long been around communities within Honiara, assisting the SI people in community awareness, lighting, security projects, and youth engagements.
Burns Creek community leaders welcomed and accepted the donations from the CPLT during the official unveiling ceremony.
They see this as a stepping stone for their community, a chance to help their women expand their knowledge, build trust, and mostly maintain their focus on gaining self-reliance.
RSIPF Commissioner Mr. Ian Vaevaso said strengthening the core values of the RSIPF with our partners is what we are looking to achieve to gain public trust, maintain peace, and gain community partnership, through which we can collaborate stronger between your police and communities.
Commissioner Vaevaso said in order to resolve community disputes, individual disagreements, or simple issues in our communities, we can proactively rely on a community-based approach or settlement rather than reactive policing.
“Our community leaders are eyes and ears of police, so work together with them to solve issues within community levels. Our leaders represent police, so we must work together with them,” said Mr. Vaevaso.
The new police chief said, “Stand with your police-RSIPF to fight crimes so we can maintain a peaceful SI and restore our once-called happy isles.”
