Police Investigate Fatal Accident at Panatina Campus Bus Stop
The National Traffic Department (NTD) of the Royal Solomon Island Police Force (RSIPF) is investigating a fatal accident that occurred at the Panatina Campus bus stop on Thursday last week.
Director NTD Superintendent William Foufaka confirmed that the accident involved two vehicles after one vehicle, which was at the waiting bay, made a sudden U-turn and collided with an oncoming vehicle travelling from the eastern direction.
Superintendent Foufaka said police attended the scene promptly, secured the area, conducted the initial investigations, and facilitated the removal of the vehicles.
He said two occupants of the vehicle that made the U-turn sustained serious injuries as a result of the collision. Tragically, one of the injured later died.
The RSIPF extends its condolences to the family and relatives of the deceased during this difficult time.
Superintendent Foufaka said one person has been arrested and charged in relation to the incident. The matter will proceed to court on a date to be confirmed.
Superintendent Foufaka emphasized that investigations into the fatal accident are ongoing.
“All motorists are urged to exercise extreme caution, obey traffic rules, and remain vigilant at all times to help prevent further loss of life,” Superintendent Foufaka said.
