Farmers of East Makira received Tools from China
Farmers in East Makira Constituency have received a significant boost to their agricultural activities following the handover of farming equipment and tools from the People’s Republic of China (PRC), facilitated through the support of the Member of Parliament for East Makira, Hon. Franklyn Derek Wasi.
The donation, consisting of a range of essential farming tools and equipment, was presented to the Marunga Farmers Association, which represents cocoa and coconut farmers in the eastern weather coast of Makira-Ulawa Province.
The support aims to strengthen the productivity and resilience of smallholder farmers, particularly those engaged in cocoa and coconut production — key income-generating crops for rural communities in the province.
Hon. Franklyn Wasi expressed appreciation to the Government and people of the People’s Republic of China for their continued partnership in supporting the livelihoods of rural farmers. He emphasized that the tools will greatly enhance the capacity of farmers to improve production and sustain their farming activities.
“This assistance will go a long way in empowering our farmers and improving their ability to cultivate, harvest, and process their crops more efficiently,” Hon. Wasi said. “We are deeply grateful to the PRC for their ongoing commitment to rural development in Makira-Ulawa Province.”
Hon. Wasi who is also the Minister for the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock (MAL) acknowledged the partnership, noting that such collaborations contribute to the Government’s broader goal of strengthening the agriculture sector and improving rural livelihoods.
The handover marks another milestone in the growing partnership between Solomon Islands and the People’s Republic of China in advancing agricultural development and rural empowerment.
