PM Provides Update on SIICAC and Police Commissioner Appointments

Honiara, Solomon Islands, Wednesday 5 November, 2025 – Prime Minister Hon. Jeremiah Manele yesterday (Tuesday, 4 November) confirmed progress in the appointments of the SIICAC Director General and Police Commissioner during a press conference at OPMC, Honiara.

The recruitment process for the Director General of SIICAC is in its final stage, with all interviews completed and documentation being prepared for submission to the Justice and Legal Service Commission. The Prime Minister highlighted that the 2026 National Budget will include a dedicated budget for SIICAC to ensure its operational independence from the Office of the Prime Minister and Cabinet.

“We expect the announcement of a Director General soon,” Prime Minister Manele said.

The Police Commissioner recruitment is also progressing. The Interim Selection Committee has resumed full operations and will finalise the shortlist of candidates this week, with recommendations to follow the proper constitutional process.

“The process is being coordinated to ensure transparency and adherence to government standards,” the Prime Minister said.

The Prime Minister was supported at the press conference by the Secretary to the Prime Minister, Dr. Melchior Mataki; Permanent Secretary for Mines, Energy and Rural Electrification, Dr. Christopher Vehe, also Supervising Permanent Secretary for the Ministry of Environment, Climate Change and Disaster Management; Director of Environment, Mr. Joseph Hurutaru; and Chairman of the SIWA Board, Dr. Culwick Togamana.
