PACER Plus Supports Launch of Invest Solomon Website
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and External Trade (MFAET), as the focal point for PACER Plus in Solomon Islands, has congratulated the Foreign Investment Division (FID) under the Ministry of Commerce, Industry, Labour and Immigration (MCILI) on the successful launch of the Invest Solomon Website.
The new website is a key outcome of the Foreign Investment Promotion and Facilitation Capacity Development Project, supported through the PACER Plus Development and Economic Cooperation (DEC) Work Programme.
The project aims to strengthen Solomon Islands’ investment promotion framework through capacity building and digital transformation.
Speaking at the launch, MFAET’s Chief Trade Officer, Ms. Janice Ashwin, reaffirmed Solomon Islands’ commitment under PACER Plus, a development-centred regional trade agreement that came into force on 13 December 2020.
“PACER Plus was established with a vision to deliver sustainable and inclusive investment, trade, and economic growth initiatives that improve the lives and well-being of our people,” Ms. Ashwin said.
“It represents our collective effort to create a more even playing field in regional and international trade, one that ensures small island states like Solomon Islands can participate meaningfully and benefit equitably.”
She added that the support provided through PACER Plus reflects the importance of investment in people and technology.
“This project goes to the heart of that vision, strengthening the Foreign Investment Division’s capacity and equipping it with modern digital tools such as this website to better attract and facilitate investment,” Ms. Ashwin noted.
“In today’s interconnected world, reliable connectivity and access to information are crucial to building confidence, attracting investors, and driving economic growth.”
MFAET acknowledged the collaboration of all partners, including Mr. Riley Mesepitu, Permanent Secretary of MCILI; technical consultants Mr. Juan Anzola and Mr. Leonardo Nieto; Dr. Alisi Holani, PACER Plus Activity Lead; Ms. Venice Oge, Solomon Islands National Coordinator; and the dedicated Foreign Investment Division team, led by Director Ms. Lynette Dawheya and Deputy Director Ms. Sially Turanga.
The launch of the Invest Solomon Website demonstrates the success of regional cooperation under PACER Plus and Solomon Islands’ determination to modernise its investment environment for inclusive and sustainable economic growth.
