PNG congratulates Solomon Islands on successful Border Management System launch
HONIARA, Solomon Islands – The Papua New Guinea Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Immigration and Border Security, Hon. John Rosso, has congratulated the Solomon Islands Immigration Division on the successful launch of the country’s new Border Management System (BMS).
Representatives from the Papua New Guinea Immigration and Citizenship Service Authority (PNG ICSA), the Australian Department of Home Affairs, and the Solomon Islands Government gathered in Honiara today (28 October 2025) to celebrate the landmark occasion.
The digital BMS system was developed in conjunction with PNG ICSA and the Australian Home Affairs as part of an ongoing trilateral partnership aimed at capacity building in the region.
“On behalf of the Government of Papua New Guinea and the Ministry for Immigration and Border Security, I extend my congratulations to the Solomon Islands Immigration Division, and the Solomon Islands Government, on the successful launch of its new BMS,” Hon. Rosso said in a statement today.
“This milestone marks a significant step forward in strengthening border security, enhancing immigration services, and promoting regional cooperation across the Pacific.
“The implementation of a modern, integrated BMS reflects the Solomon Islands’ commitment to safeguarding its borders while facilitating safe and efficient travel and trade.
“As neighboring nations with shared values and aspirations, Papua New Guinea recognises this achievement, and understands the importance of digital transformation in border management.
“The BMS will not only improve efficiency and integrity, it will also contribute to regional efforts in combating transnational crime and ensuring the safety of citizens.
“We look forward to continued collaboration with the Solomon Islands and other Pacific partners in building resilient, secure border systems.
“Once again, congratulations to the Solomon Islands Immigration Division, its leadership, and all stakeholders involved in this initiative.”
The Papua New Guinea Immigration and Citizenship Service Authority, together with the Australian Government, has worked since 2024 to support the Solomon Islands Immigration Division with the procurement and implementation of the BMS.
