SEMINAR ON COST OF POLITICS HOSTED BY IPAM FOR SENIOR PUBLIC OFFICERS

The Institute of Public Administration and Management (IPAM) hosted a lunch -time seminar conducted by Dr. Tony Hiriasia on the 11th June, 2025.

The seminar topic is “Cost of Politics in Solomon Islands”, and it highlights factors that drive the cost of politics and also recommendations to bring down the cost and to allow more inclusive participation in politics (elections) based on ideas rather than just money.

The topic is relevant to all citizens, including government officials. As implementors of government policies, public officials in the decision-making fraternity need to have a broad knowledge on aspects of the government that is pulsating, and the cost of politics is one. This has a some correlation to the services we provide to the citizens of Solomon Islands.

In the questions and answers session, senior public officers contributed and shared their views, experiences and suggestions on the intensions of politics and its relations to the government operations.

In his acknowledgments, Director IPAM sincerely thanked senior government officials for attending, and also Dr. Tony Hiriasia for his research, that ventures into areas that affects the likelihood of all Solomon Islanders. Senior government officials expressed that seminars like this should be facilitated regularly to instil a learning mindset and to grow a well-informed public service.
