“Trade for Transformation” – 2025 National Trade Fair Announced in Honiara
Honiara, Solomon Islands, 3 June 2025 – The Solomon Islands Annual National Trade Fair 2025 was officially launched in Honiara last Friday, with the keynote address delivered by the Deputy Prime Minister, Hon. Frederick Kologeto.
The event, held under the theme “Trade for Transformation – Rebuilding the Happy Isles,” marked the formal announcement of the National Trade Fair, which will be held in July this year. The Trade Fair aims to provide a platform for local producers, entrepreneurs, and businesses to showcase their products and services across the country.
In his remarks, Hon. Kologeto emphasized the important role trade plays in strengthening the domestic economy and supporting national development efforts, particularly as Solomon Islands prepares to graduate from the Least Developed Countries (LDC) category.
“Trade is not just about goods and services—it also reflects how we connect with one another, how we create opportunity, and how we strengthen resilience,” he said.
The Trade Fair is expected to bring together participants from across the provinces and sectors, encouraging collaboration, innovation, and greater participation in the country’s economic activities.
Hon. Kologeto noted that the initiative aligns with government policies on economic transformation and supports objectives in the National Development Strategy, including inclusive growth, poverty reduction, and improved livelihoods.
“This platform will provide opportunities for different sectors to engage, share ideas, and explore ways to improve the participation of local businesses in the economy,” he added.
The Deputy Prime Minister also acknowledged the work of the Ministry of Commerce, Industry, Labour and Immigration, the Solomon Islands Chamber of Commerce and Industry, and members of the Trade Fair Committee for their coordination and planning.
“Events such as this remind us of the importance of practical initiatives that support policy goals,” he said.
