Revival of Annual Trade Fair demonstrates GNUT’s commitment to promoting local products
HONIARA, Solomon Islands: The revival of the Annual Trade Fair, formerly known as the Trade Show, after eleven years of inactivity, demonstrates the GNUT’s commitment to promoting fair trade, competitive markets, and strong export pathways for local producers.
The Government, through the Ministry of Commerce, Industry, Labour and Immigration (MCILI) will host the 2025 Annual Trade Fair in the first week of July this year with the theme “Trade for Transformation—Rebuilding Our Happy Isles”. It will coincide with the country’s 47th Anniversary of Independence celebrations.
The 2025 Trade Fair is aligned with the GNUT’s Policy Statement 2.1.6, which promotes and supports the private sector through the establishment of Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) to foster a competitive and thriving business environment. This policy aims to diversify the economy, generate employment, and empower Solomon Islanders through entrepreneurship and innovation.
As the lead Ministry, MCILI is committed to promoting fair trade, competitive markets, and strong export pathways for local producers.
This is to ensure goods and services produced by SME’s are visible in both the domestic and international markets.
Promoting fair trade and creating strong market linkages is central to empowering the local economy and achieving long-term prosperity.
The Ministry’s core functions include the promotion of locally made products and services, organizing inclusive annual national trade and investment events, supporting exporters in securing niche market for high-value Solomon Islands products, and ensuring that local products gain greater visibility and competitiveness within the domestic market.
The event will be launched at the end of May 2025, with exhibition and vendor registration details to follow. The 2025ANTF Steering Committee invites all stakeholders from government ministries, the private sector, civil society, NGO, and provinces to join this national celebration of enterprise and transformation.
The Ministry and the Solomon Islands National University signed an agreement last week allowing with former FOPA village to play host to the weeklong event.
