SIEC issue Notice for Transfer of Voters for WGC and Paripao Ward

HONIARA, Solomon Islands – THE Solomon Islands Electoral Commission (SIEC) has this month (May) issued a Directive for the transfer of 81 persons on the list of pre-registered electors to the final list of electors for West Guadalcanal Constituency (WGC) and Paripao Ward.

These 81 comprise of 26 electors for Paripao Ward and 55 electors for WGC.

The Commission’s Chief Electoral Officer, Jasper Highwood Anisi explained “These are all registered voters of the two respective electorates, however did not participate at the 2024 National Joint Elections as they did not meet the age requirements. Their names are in our system and listed pre-registered electors. This will now be transferred to the final list of electors for West Guadalcanal Constituency and Paripao Ward – as these voters are now 18 and eligible to take part in the coming by-elections”.

Section 57 of the Electoral Act 2018 states that the CEO must transfer the name of a young person from the list of pre-registered electors for a constituency to the final list of electors for the constituency: (a) when the person turns 18 years of age; or, (b) if the young person will turn 18 years of age after the end of a registration period but on or before an election date – when the final list of electors is prepared for the purpose of that election.

“In exercise of the powers conferred upon me under section 57 of the Electoral Act 2018, I Jasper Highwood Anisi, Chief Electoral Officer, hereby direct that those young person’s currently on the list of pre-registered electors and attained the age of 18-years, or shall be 18 years of age on or before 4 June 2025, be transferred to the final list of electors.

This directive shall take immediate effect and shall apply to the voter lists for West Guadalcanal Constituency and Paripao Ward of Northeast Guadalcanal.

I hereby direct the Manager Operations to ensure that the Officer-in-Charge of the Electoral Office Data Centre implements this directive”.

The 81 will now join more than 10,000 plus electors from West Guadalcanal Constituency and Paripao Ward who will be heading to the polls in the June 4 by-elections.
