Disciplinary Hearing Training for CSSI Officers completed
The Correctional Service of Solomon Islands (CSSI) has recently completed a week-long Disciplinary Hearing Training (DHT) to CSSI Provincial Commandants, Directors and newly Gazetted Officers at the Correctional Service Training Academy, Rove in Honiara.
CSSI Professional Standard Unit (PSU) delivered a week of DHT to enhance the hearing officer to be able to demonstrate high experience in relation to professional standards and ethical behaviour including the ability to conduct hearing on major and complex cases and make appropriate conclusions, decision or effective outcomes.
Speaking during the official closing of the training, CSSI Commissioner Mactus Forau thanked the course participants, PSU Director and staff, and also acknowledged the course facilitator Mr. Lolonga Mare for his commitment and dedication in this training workshop
CSSI Commissioner Mactus Forau said, disciplinary hearings are a critical aspect of maintaining workplace standards and accountability.
He believed a week of training has been fruitful, meaningful and has given some insights of how to hear formal disciplinary cases and know how to conduct disciplinary hearings and procedures of disciplinary hearing in accordance with legal and ethical standards so that all parties are treated with fairness and respects.
He said discipline is a very important pillar of any disciplinary organisation throughout the globe and without discipline we can’t achieve our objectives, function, and the total operation of our organisation.
Forau urges leaders to reinforce standards of discipline and impose the discipline action to officers that breaches of workplace rules must be dealt with consistently and legally.
Course facilitator Mr. Lolonga Mare thanked and acknowledge an invitation from the Office of the Director Professional Standard Unit (PSU) through the Office of the Commissioner to recognise the needs of this organisation for the disciplinary process especially on hearing internal cases.
On this same note, Director Professional Standard Unit Mr. Robert Gada said, this training is a milestone for the organization as disciplinary hearing training is one of the requirement in the unit annual work plans for this year.
Commandant Kirakira Correctional Centre Inspector John Keith, on behalf of the participants and provincial commandants do thanked and acknowledge the course facilitator Mr. Mare for his time to offer the knowledge and skills to the hearing officers to understand and analyse hearing cases.
On behalf of the Commissioner’s office and Executive, Deputy Commissioner Operation Mr. Michael Nagu thanked the course participants for their participation and engagement in the course activities, and also commended and acknowledge the great job well-done by the facilitator Mr. Lolonga Mare with the support of the Director PSU and his hard-working staff to facilitate this training accordingly.
