Health and Medical Services Minister, Dr. Culwick Togamana has announced that those wishing to travel to their home provinces from Honiara must be free from covid-19.
The Minister made the announcement on Wednesday 23 February following an increasing demand and requests for travels to the provinces, mostly from stranded passengers.
However, the process includes seeking approval from Provincial Disaster Management Office (P-DOCs) to give travel clearance.
The P-DOCs provide the approval and once approved, passenger’s name will be listed in the approval list for travels to the province which will be submitted to the National Emergency Operation Centre (NEOC) and the National Health Emergency Operation Centre who will then forward the list to the Police Commissioner for final endorsement.
“Once endorsed, passengers will be contacted for COVID-19 rapid test and only if your test result returns negative, you will be able to travel to the province,” Minister Togamana said.
The traveling public is kindly asked to take note of this process and should contact our National Health Emergency Operation Centre for further information.
These measures are put in place to mitigate the spread of the virus bearing in mind that 2 of our Provinces are still COVID-19 free and few others only reporting localized outbreaks.
