Public Servants that were trained to support efforts in the battle against covid-19 has been directed report to the Ministry of Health Headquarters to support the current efforts to contained community transmission in Honiara.
Prime Minister Manasseh Sogavare made the directive in his national address today as the health team is already overloaded trying to control the Honiara outbreak.
This is critical to contain other potential outbreaks in the provinces in coming days.
More than 150 public servants from other government Ministries were trained to assist the Ministry of Health to carry out contact tracing, recording and answering phone hotlines during community outbreaks.
“I further understand many of these public servants are refusing to assist when contacted by the Ministry of health to assist.
“I hereby direct the Secretary to Cabinet and the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Public Service to direct these public servants to turn up at the Ministry of health as soon as possible to assist contain this outbreak,” Sogavare said.
The Ministry of Health will provide a schedule of work for public officers in coming days.
The Prime Minister said the country now faces its hardest test with widespread community transmission of COVID-19.
“We must work together to contain and control the virus and to protect our people,” Sogavare said.
Sogavare added that vaccination is the only proven way to reduce transmission and reduce the severity of COVID-19 on people.
