Prime Minister Manasseh Sogavare has commended Honiara residents who have complied with public health measures that helped to slow down the outbreak of COVID 19 in the city.
The outbreak in Honiara is starting to show signs of slowing down, however, it is increasing in other provinces including Malaita, Isabel, Central, and Guadalcanal Provinces.
The Prime Minister, however, noted that the number of reported cases does not represent the accurate extent of the current situation.
It is strongly believed that there are more unreported cases because not many people have been tested coupled with our limited testing capacity.
Health Authorities have made provision for a widespread availability of testing through the use of rapid tests and this will be made available at different levels of our health system.
“I would like to commend the population of Honiara who have complied with the public health measures and helped us slow down the outbreak of COVID 19 in Honiara. Thank you for your cooperation and understanding,” Sogavare said in his address to the nation today.
Citizens, however, must remain vigilant and continue to observe COVID 19 safe practices such as maintaining physical distance, wearing masks, frequent handwashing, and most importantly get vaccinated.
Sogavare is encouraged by the in-roads made into increasing our vaccination coverage rate.
