Officers of the Royal Solomon Islands Police Force (RSIPF) at Lata in Temotu Province have arrested a 46-year-year-old male person in relation to a traffic incident that had happened on 2 September 2021.
Operation Manager Temotu Province, Inspector Walter Leleina says, “It was alleged that on the 10 June 2021, the son of the vehicle owner was driving the vehicle providing transport to the public at Noipe village, Santa Cruz Islands when the vehicle almost hit a pedestrian. Attempts been made by the driver to stop the vehicle but could not due to power steering failure. The driver escaped shortly after the incident.”
Operation Manager Inspector Leleina says, “On the 2 September 2021 following police investigation, the owner of the vehicle was arrested and interviewed. Police found out that both suspect’s driving license with vehicle license later discovered to have been expire.”
Inspector Leleina says, “Suspect was charged with four counts. First count for permitting unlicensed vehicle Contrary to section 7(1) , second for permitting uninsured motor vehicle contrary to section 8(1), third for permitting vehicles failing to display license contrary to section 13(1) and permitting unlicensed motor vehicle drivers contrary to section 20 of the Road Transport Act. The suspect is bailed to attend court on 28 September 2021.”
Mr Leleina appeals to the vehicle owners and the drivers to observe the Road and Transport Regulations for which its penalties are too severe if the court finds you guilty on charges laid. Let us work together in maintaining law and order and provide safety for our people in Temotu Province.
