SOLOMON ISLANDS INDEPENDENT COMMISSION AGAINST CORRUPTION (SIICAC)

The Nominating Committee of the Solomon Islands Independent Commission Against Corruption (SIICAC) invites applications from suitably qualified and experienced persons to serve as members of the SIICAC.

Number of Members and Term of Service: The Commission comprises six (6) members who will serve on the Commission for a term of 5 years, commencing in December 2024.

 

Membership and Composition of the SIICAC: The Commission consists of:

a) A Chairperson;
b) A Deputy Chairperson; and
c) Four (4) other members.

The membership of the Commission must include:

a) At least Two persons of each gender;
b) At least One person who is qualified or experienced in accounting or financial management; and
c) A reasonable geographical representation spread of the provinces of Solomon Islands.

Main Function of the Commission: The main function of the Commission members is to provide governance oversight and make decisions on the work of the Solomon Islands Independent Commission Against Corruption (SIICAC) to combat corruption through prevention, investigation and prosecution.

Criteria for the SIICAC Members: The criteria for the Chairperson, Deputy Chairperson and the 4 other members of the Commission are in accordance with the Anti-Corruption Act 2018 and the Anti Corruption (Amendment) Act 2019, section 11; are provided in the table below.

  • i).  Qualified for appointment as a judge of the High Court of Solomon Islands; or a retired judge of the High Court of Solomon Islands; or is eligible for appointment as a judge of the High Court of Solomon Islands but he or she is over the retirement age; and
  • ii). Is a person of high integrity and is capable of exercising diligence, sound judgement, confidentiality and impartiality in the performance of the functions; and
  • iii). Has knowledge and experience relevant to the prevention of corruption and sound knowledge of the culture and values of the Solomon Islands; and
  • iv). Has the physical and mental capacity to perform his or her functions as a member of the Commission.
02/24 Deputy Chairperson
  • i). Qualified for appointment as a judge of the High Court of Solomon Islands; or a retired judge of the High Court of Solomon Islands; or is eligible for appointment as a judge of the High Court of Solomon Islands but he or she is over the retirement age; and
  • ii). Is a person of high integrity and is capable of exercising diligence, sound judgment, confidentiality and impartiality in the performance of the functions; and

03/24 Four (4) Commission Members
  • i). Is a person of high integrity and is capable of exercising diligence, sound judgement, confidentiality and impartiality in the performance of their functions; and
  • ii). Has knowledge and experience relevant to the prevention of corruption and a sound knowledge of the culture and values of Solomon Islands; and
  • iii). Has the physical and mental capacity to perform his or her functions as a member of the Commission.
  • iv). At least one person who is qualified or experienced in accounting or financial management.
