BUALA, ISABEL PROVINCE, SOLOMON ISLANDS, 21st JUNE 2024 – Today provincial enforcement agencies in Buala along with Environment officers from the Ministry of Environment Climate Change Disaster Management & Meteorology conducted a monitoring exercise to enforce the Environment (Single-Use Plastic Ban) Regulation.
Notably, enforcement officers encountered no serious incidents during their monitoring and awareness duties. The community in Buala has been highly cooperative. However, minor issues enforcement agencies saw are mainly due to lack of information and confusion which the provincial joint enforcement team will closely monitor for any potential breaches.
The participating enforcement agencies include officers from the Environment & Conservation Division (Ministry of Environment), Provincial Environmental Health Division (Ministry of Health), IPG Environment & Climate Change Officer and Buala Police.
overall, there is a positive trend of compliance with the regulation in Buala. Similar enforcement and monitoring efforts will extend to the remaining five provinces yet to be covered this year.
