On 25 June 2021, the Solomon Islands Ambassador to the People’s Republic of China, H.E John Moffat Fugui presented the copy of his Credentials to Mr. Hong Lei – Director General (DG) of the Protocol Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, People’s Republic of China. DG Hong receives the Letter of Credentials on behalf of the Minister of Foreign Affairs. The presentation of Credentials to President Xi is on hold at the moment due to the COVID-19 global pandemic.
During the ceremony, DG Hong conveys his warm welcome to the Ambassador and his family to China. The DG congratulated the Ambassador for taking up a huge role in representing his country and being the first Ambassador of Solomon Islands to China. He further invites Ambassador Fufui to visit different parts of China throughout his tenure. Additionally, Hong reiterated China’s willingness to facilitate economic and social benefits to developing countries such as Solomon Islands.
H.E Fugui thanked the government and people of China for the warm welcome. He expresses Solomon Islands gratitude for the support from China through the COVID-19 assistance, 2030 Pacific Games sporting facilities and other valuable contributions to the development of the country. H.E Fugui also congratulated the Communist Party of China (CPC) for reaching its 100 years anniversary and wished the country wonderful celebrations.
Ambassador Fugui also paid a courtesy visit to Mr. Lu Kang – Director General of the North American and Oceanian Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Thursday 1st July 2021. Following the presentation of Credentials, H.E Fugui now assumes his full duties as the Solomon Islands Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary in China.
